Shamsun Naher nirusrc@yahoo.com Afiza Kakon nirusrc@yahoo.com A field trial was conducted at the Spices Research Center, BARI, Shibganj, Bogra during 2009-10 to study the effect of different management practices to control of rhizome rot and best economic return on the growth and yield of ginger. Ginger cv. BARI Ada-1 was planted 1st week of April. Six treatments were used viz., C1 (solarization of soil), C2 (burning of soil by rice straw), C3 (burning of soil by saw dust), C4 (neem cake), C5 (mustard oil cake) and C6 (control). The treatment was arranged in Randomize Complete Block Design using with three replications. The results reveled that C4 (neem cake) showed early emergence, highest plant height, number of leaves plant-1, number of tillers plant-1 with maximum weight of primary rhizome and secondary rhizome, highest dry matter % and weight of old mother rhizome tha-1. The highest yield of rhizome (18.02 tha-1) and best benefit cost ratio (2.25) was also recorded in the C4 (neem cake). Ray q@gmail.com The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Sub-Centre, Faridpur during Rabi season 2013-14 and 2014-2015 to determine the effects of different row spacing (S1=20, S2=30 and S3= 40 cm) and phosphorus applications (P0=0, P1=30, P2= 60 and P3=90 kg ha-1) on the yield and yield attributes of fenugreek. The two factor experiment was arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design with three replications. Phosphorus fertilizer applications positively affected all the traits examined except for 1st pod height, pod length and thousand seed weight. In 2013-14 the highest yield (2233 kg/ha) was obtained from 30 cm spacing with 90 kg P/ha. The lowest yield (733 kg/ha) was obtained from S3P0 (40 cm spacing with control). In 2014-15 the row spacing of 20 cm and phosphorus dose of 90 kg/ha gave the highest yield (2033 kg/ha). Three different seedling ages such as S1= 20 days, S2= 25 days and S3= 30 days old seedling were used. The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications. Jui sharmilamallick.2259@gmail.com <p>An investigation was carried out to study the effects of in vitro plantlets of 12 potato varieties efficiency on minituber production. Results showed that varieties have significant differences in their growth traits (Mortality percentage of plantlets, plant height, number of minituber per plant, weights of minituber per plant, yield of minituber, grades of minituber by number and grades of minituber by weights). The mortality rate was lowest in BARI Alu 53 (9.33%). The maximum plant height and leaf area were found in BARI Alu 53 (81.27cm) and BARI Alu 28 (1250.67 cm2), respectively. The highest number of minitubers per plant 35 and weight 204.26 g and the maximum yield of minituber were obtained from BARI Alu 40 (10.21 kg m-2). The minimum percentage of non-seed grade minituber by number and weight was found from the variety BARI Alu 8 (Cardinal) (6.27%) and BARI Alu 37 (3.26%), respectively. Faisal Fahim rumpakbds@gmail.com <p>The experiment was conducted during 2013-14 at spices Research Sub-centre, Faridpur and farmer’s field of Faridpur sadar upazila and 2014-15 at farmer’s field of Faridpu rsadar upazila to validate onion seed production technologies at Faridpur region. The experiment was conducted during rabi season. In 2013-14, at farmer’s field the experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design with eight replications and at SRSC the experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design with four replications and in 2014-15, the experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design with four replications. In 2013-14, three treatments viz, 1) SRC recommended practice: planting time (2nd week of November) + bulb size (15-20g) + spacing (20 cm ×15 cm) + irrigation (five at 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 DAP) + weeding (four at 15, 25, 45 and 60 DAP) + fungicide (Rovral+ Ridomil Gold and Nativo four alternate spray when disease appears) + insecticide ( 2-3 spraying of Regent when thrips appears) 2) Farmer’s practice: planting time (2nd week of November) + bulb size (15-20g) + spacing (30cm × 20 cm) + irrigation ( one at 15-20 DAE) + weeding (one followed by irrigation + fungicide (Rovral and Score applied at 7days interval after umbel brusting)+insecticide (Confidor applied when thrips appears) and 3) Farmer’s practice +1irrigation more (additional irrigation was given at 50 DAP) were studied. In 2014-15, one additional treatment viz, Farmer’s practice + SRC spacing was included to the above treatments. The results of the study revealed that management practices had significant impact on yield and yield attributes of onion and among the treatments the highest yield was found from SRC recommended practice in both the years. Significantly highest yield (536.5 kg) was recorded from SRC recommended practice and the lowest yield (413.5 kg/ha) was recorded from Farmer’s practice.</p> 2017-10-14T13:51:55+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement##
